The 5th Annual Orrville All Star Community Baseball Tournament will be held June 23rd-25th. Cost is $250 for 10U & 12U teams and $300 for 14Uteams. All teams will be responsible for paying umpires. OABGC Purchases New Van

An additional van has been added to our fleet.

We would like to thank the Wayne County Community Foundation, the Carl E. Congdon Jr. & Susanna Congdon McIntyre Memorial Fund for helping provide funds to purchase an additional van.

The purchase of this new van allows us to increase the opportunities we provide to our members for field trips as well as transporting students to and from school.

OABGC Wraps Up Fall Sports

The Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club Fall Sports have finished up and it was another great year. The Flag Football program had teams from Orrville, Smithville, Waynedale, Rittman, and Massillon. The winners of the 3rd & 4th grade Gold Division were Smithville Beichler and Texas Tech (Orrville) was the Silver Division Champion. In the 5th & 6th grade division Smithville Indermuhle won the Gold Division and Smithville Riggenbach won the Silver Division. The coaches and referees were a tremendous help and big thank you to the Orrville High School football players for assisting with coaching this year.

The Volleyball season was another successful year and the turnout this year was amazing. We had over 85 total participants for the leagues this year. The coaches and staff were amazing this year and the girls improved throughout the season. Congratulations to the Slammers for winning the 3rd & 4th grade division and the Smashers for winning the 5th & 6th grade division. Great job by all of the participants and a shoutout to the Orrville High School Volleyball team for helping out with the program this year!

The OABGC tackle football teams did very well this year. There were 58 total participants this year and they were separated into three teams. The upper division Orrville Red and Orrville Black teams had a great year finishing up the season at the High School stadium with a game against each other. The Lower division Orrville team lost a close battle in the championship game and was one of the top teams in the league. Great job by all of the players and coaches who worked so hard all year.

Fall Activities for Teens at OABGC

Teens, Join us for our Upcoming Fall Activities

The OABGC Teen Center will be having multiple upcoming events. On Friday, October 28th from 6pm-8:30pm will be our Halloween Teen Event. This event is for Members Only, and will include: Food, Games & a Costume Competition. This is a free event, sign up is located in the teen center or by Contacting Teen Director Nicolina Nolletti for more information.

We will also be holding a Tailgate & Cornhole Tournament on Sunday, November 20th at 12:30pm for the Browns vs Bills Game. Come out and watch the game on our big screen. Entry is free, donations are welcome. All proceeds will go towards the Teen Program. Registration for the Cornhole Tournament is $10per team. Winning team will receive (2) $25 gift cards. OABGC Welcomes Nicolina Nolletti

The Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club in Orrville, OH has added Nicolina Nolletti to the team as Teen Director. Nicolina will be responsible for implementing teen programs and developing local resources for Club teens ages 13-18. Programs will foster positive self-Identity; education and learning loss, career readiness, social, emotional and cultural competencies; community and civic involvement; health (mind, body and soul) and life skills.

Nicolina has worked the past 10 years connecting with children and teens as a caseworker in Wayne County and is looking forward to collaborating with local agencies to provide programming to all youth at the Club.

The Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to support, enable, and develop youth and teens to reach their full potential. The OABGC is a proud partner agency of the Orrville Area United Way.

OABGC Launches New Satellite Location

New Rittman Satellite Location to Open August 16th

On August 16th the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club will open a new satellite location at Rittman Elementary School. The Rittman Satellite location will be offering morning and afternoon Kidstop for those in grades Kindergarten through Fifth. Morning prices are $20 per week and afternoon prices $20 per week or $35 for both (billed monthly) plus a membership fee of $10. Scholarships are available to those who qualify. Our OABGC Annual Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, August 13th at Riceland Golf Course with an 8:00am shotgun start. Cost is $50/person ($200 for team) which includes golf, prizes, food & drinks. The Orrville Slugfest is an 8U baseball coaches pitch tournament that will take place June 18th and 19th. Cost is $200/ team plus umpires. This is a community only team tournament and there is a 3 game guarantee.

Summer Kick-Off & Middle School Dance

The OABGC's Torch Club will be hosting a Summer Kick-Off Dance for Middle Schoolers on Friday, June 10th. All students must present an end of the year GPA of at least 2.5 (5th Grade must have 3.0+.)

5th & 6th Grade Dance: 6:00pm-8:00pm

7th & 8th Grade Dance: 8:30pm-10:30pm

*Grade during 2021-2022 school Year.

Join the OABGC this Summer!

We wanted to take a minute to welcome you to the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club! We are so excited for summer to be here and to meet new friends. As you know the OABGC is growing fast. With growth comes change. So, we wanted to break down a few key areas to help you with what to expect from us this summer.

Cost

The cost of Summer Program is $50 per week / per child, we also have an initial membership fee of $10 per member. There are multiple ways to receive your current balance. Your current balance is always available by emailing Kelly at kkrueger@oabgc.org or by calling the Club. Statements are emailed weekly for your convenience. We also offer a parent portal in which you can register members, pay balances and enroll your member in programming. We want to make this as stress free as possible so please reach out to us if you need any further accommodations. We are here to work with you!

Conduct

As a member of the OABGC we hold your child to high standards. Our goal is that our kids stand out in a crowd as polite, caring and honorable members of society. Therefore we ask that you speak with your child about the behavior that is expected of them. If your child is not conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, we will communicate with you. If at any time your child’s behavior becomes problematic they may be asked to take some time away from the Club.

Meals

Breakfast will be served daily from 7am to 9am. Any member arriving after 9 am will not be served breakfast. We will be walking to Orrville Elementary School for lunch. We will be lining up to walk to the school at 11:15. If your child will be eating lunch with the Club they need to arrive BEFORE 11:00 am. Meals will not be provided to any child who arrives later than specified times.

Dress Code

The Club follows the same dress code as most schools. Please make sure that your child is dressed in appropriate attire for being active. We are walking and moving most of the day. We visit the park and walk to lunch in addition to other games that we play outside. We strongly suggest that flip flops or sandals NOT be worn due to how easily they break. If it is imperative that your child wear them, you will be required to provide a second pair of shoes to keep at the Club for the day. *Flip Flop sandals will not be permitted on fieldtrips*

Field Trips

Every year Fieldtrips become a source of frustration for parents. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could enjoy summer and relax? The OABGC thinks so. That is why we have created some rules for the fieldtrips that we think will streamline the process. We want to make sure you understand that these rules were put in place to be fair for ALL children, and to give ALL children a chance to attend a fieldtrip this summer.

1. Fieldtrips are by sign up only. There will be fieldtrips on Wednesdays. Sign ups will be posted on Monday the week prior to the trip. Since the field trips cost money to attend, we require your payment at the time of sign up. The pool is included in this process. For your child to attend the pool they need to be signed up and paid no later than the night before swimming.

2. It will be the Clubs discretion who attends trips.

3. Your Kid Stop bill must be in good standing before your child will be permitted to attend field trips.

4. In addition to weekly “big” field trips, we will also be attending small field trips around town (ie: police station, fire station, etc.). Sign ups are not required for these trips. All members are welcome to attend.

5. As stated previously under “conduct” we expect our members to behave at a high standard. This applies to fieldtrips, especially. When we are outside of the Club we need our members to be listening and following directions in order to keep everyone safe. It is non-negotiable that every member act in a way that warrants them continuing to attend fieldtrips. If they choose not to act appropriately then they are choosing to not attend field trips. This includes any trip outside of the Club (IE: the park, the pool and etc). We will follow a three strike disciplinary plan. The format is as follows: 1. Parent will be warned at the first sign of misconduct. 2. The child will miss the next scheduled field trip. 3. The child will not be permitted to attend any field trips for the remainder of the summer.

6. Due to van capacity limitations, field trips will be limited to 26 members unless otherwise adjusted.

Operation Silver Moon

An Overnight Event for Grades 5th through 8th

Anyone currently attending Middle School (Grades 5th-8th) are welcome to participate in an Overnight Event at the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club on Friday, March 25th from 9:00pm until Saturday, March 26th at 8:00am. Memberships are required for those who do not currently have an active 2022 Membership on file. Memberships are Due by March 24th.

Throughout the evening there will be a food and beverages, a mystery raffle, movies, a DJ and dancing, arts, crafts and more. Admission/entry fee is $10 per person. High School Open Court Event

Project Swish is an Open Court event for anyone currently attending High School on Friday, March 4th at the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club. Doors will open at 7:00pm and open courts will start at 7:30pm. The event will run until 12:00am, memberships are required and can be downloaded Here . Gather-N-Paint Middle School Event

The OABGC is pleased to host a Middle School Exclusive event Friday, January 21st for grades 5th through 8th that will run from 6:30pm-11:30pm. The night will be orchestrated by KeOntae Owens, OABGC Teen Director who will be welcoming special guests from the Wayne County Center for the Arts. Youth who are in grades 5th-8th are encouraged to come out and participate in the night's escapades. Membership is required for those that do not have an active membership for the 2022 calendar year. (Due by January 20th.)

On the schedule for the night we will have a group led painting/arts and crafts session, where members can create their own memorabilia of the event. There will also be schedule video game tournaments along with team building games in the gym. Snacks, food, and beverages will be included in the price of admission. We will also be raffling off some mystery prizes to slected winners every hour on the hour.

The entry fee for the evening will be $10 at the door, along with completed and signed permission slip and membership form.

If Orrville City Schools are Closed due to weather-OABGC is CLOSED for the Day.
If Orrville City Schools have a 2-Hour Delay-OABGC will open at normal time (6:30am) and will remain open until school starts.
If Orrville City Schools have a 2-Hour Delay and then Closes for the Day-OABGC will be open normal time (6:30am) and all children will need to be picked up by 10:00am.

OABGC Launches Teen Program

OABGC Teen Program Kick-Off an "Overnight" Success

The last time the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club held an overnighter, many of the attendees’ parents were the ones enjoying the fun and staying up all evening. On Friday, November 19th smiling faces filled the lobby of the Club during registration, and not just from those of the parents dropping off their teens for the evening. More than 85 teens currently in grades seven through twelve from Orrville City Schools, Canton McKinley Schools and Wooster City Schools participated in the Operation Night Hawk Overnighter.

After the doors closed at 10pm and throughout the evening, teens enjoyed pizza from Gionino’s, pickup basketball games, volleyball, video games, pool, ping-pong, movies, music and dancing.

Orrville City Councilman Darrell Mosley, II, who helped launch the new Teen Program, challenged anyone interested in a game of ping-pong- if they beat him they won $1.

After very little sleep, the event ended Saturday morning with breakfast prepared by Teen Director KeOntae Owens. Owens is responsible for implementing teen programs and developing local resources for Club teens ages 13-18. Programs will foster positive self-Identity, promote education and learning, develop career readiness, social, emotional and cultural competencies; community and civic involvement; health (mind, body and soul) and life skills.

Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club Celebrates 50th Year at Annual Benefit Auction

The 2021 Annual Kids Benefit Auction was held at The Pines Restaurant and Golf Club on November 6, 2021. It was a special one, not only because this is the 50th Anniversary of the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club, but it was also the 30th Annual Live Auction.

The evening began with a special video presentation, featuring Club alumni from the past 50 years, including Jerry Lane, one of the Club’s early Executive Directors and his family, several of whom are involved in the Boys and Girls Club organization, including his daughter-in-law Kelly Zimmerman Lane, former National Youth of the Year winner from the Club and previously serving as Development Director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Polk County, Mekos Denson former executive director of Clubs in Florida, Atlantic City, Nevada and Georgia, Tauzzari Robinson CEO at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, Michigan,. Jim Clark, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America also shared a video message to those in attendance congratulating the Club on their 50th year of serving youth. Josh Nolan, OABGC Executive Director, also shared his own history as a Club kid and the impact the Club had on him and his own career and life paths.

Emcee Keith Kennedy and Auctioneer Bob Graber kicked off the Live Auction just as they usually do. Graber, auctioneer of all 30 auctions stated, “Whether you are here for the first time, or you’re also attending your 30th live auction tonight, you will be witness to the great things this community does for the Club.” His words proved to be prophetic when it came time for bidders to make purchases at the Scholarship portion of the auction, many attendees generously opened their wallets and their hearts, sharing generously with the Club. One bidder even made a donation towards the Sports Program by purchasing 11-$250 Sports League Scholarships in memory of Board member Brooks Curtis, whose football number was 11. Another donor gave 30-$100 sponsorships in honor of the 30th anniversary of the auction.

“The generosity of the community helped raise almost $180,000.00 this year, the Club’s second highest auction to date,” said Auction Chair Shane Scarbrough. This year’s Corporate Sponsor was PNC Bank, additional sponsors included Serpentini Orrville, All Creatures Veterinary Clinic & Lodge, Aultman Orrville Hospital, Deco-Crete Supply, MD Custom Builders, Mennonite Mutual, Monheim Dentistry, Ryan & Karrie McCallister, Tim & Jenny Smucker, Wenger Companies, Auble Funeral Homes, Lynn V. Horner, Dave & Kathy Yonto, & The Hummel Group.

The next auction is planned to return to the Spring timeline and is scheduled for May 21, 2022.

Deco-Crete Supply Teams up with OABGC

OABGC Chosen as Deco-Crete Supply's Project of the Year

When the OABGC Board of Directors ran it’s last Capital Campaign in 2016, a patio was originally included in the expansion plans. Like most projects relying on donations from individuals and local businesses, the patio was taken out of the plans to help reduce project costs, but was always kept in the back of the minds of staff and board members.

Several months ago, the OABGC was contacted by Deco-Crete Supply and received word the Club was the recipient of their Project of the Year. Owners Jason and Traci Geiser and the Deco-Crete team generously donated materials and shared their time and considerable talents by installing a 35’x21’ stamped concrete patio, as well as some upgrades to the flower beds, sheds and bleacher area. These projects gave new life to the outdoor areas of the Club, transforming these spaces that are used by not only our KidStop, Teen & Sports programs but other community organizations as well

The Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club has added KeOntae Owens to their team as Teen Director. KeOntae will be responsible for implementing teen programs and developing local resources for Club teens ages 13-18. Programs will foster positive self-Identity; education and learning loss, career readiness, social, emotional and cultural competencies; community and civic involvement; health (mind, body and soul) and life skills. KeOntae is on the coaching staff of both the Orrville High School Varsity Football Team and the OABGC Tackle Football Program. KeOntae has grown up in the Club as both a member and has held various roles as a part time staff as well.

The Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club in Orrville, OH has added Brianna Kauf to their team as Program Director. Brianna will be responsible for membership programming outside of school, and the training and development of part time staff. Brianna’s experience with team dynamics, coaching and early childhood development made her an ideal candidate to help serve our membership. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Mount St Joseph in Cincinnati, OH with an Associate in Early Child Development and will be Coaching the Ohio Red Heat 10U Fastpitch Softball Team this season. “As a long time Club Member, Volunteer and Coach I am looking forward to this opportunity to give back to the community that has always supported me,” said Kauf.

OABGC Welcomes New Executive Director

The Board of Directors are excited to announce the appointment of Josh Nolan as the Executive Director for the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club.

Mr. Nolan, an Orrville native, previously worked at the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta GA, where he was the Executive Director for Youth Development. Prior to his work at the YMCA, Mr. Nolan held several leadership positions at Boys and Girls Clubs. He also brings 15 years of experience as a child-care, recreational, and multi-site operational and fiscal management professional. He has experience in managing large organizations in a diverse list of non-profit organizations.

Mr. Nolan obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Akron in 2007 and his Master’s in Business Administration from Augusta University in 2016.

The mission of the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those that need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. In this position, Mr. Nolan will focus on delivering the Club’s mission and providing strategic and managerial leadership to the Board following up on the following to three priorities: (1) updating a strategic plan for the organization, (2) developing staff, and (3) continuing to focus on fundraising for the organization. In addition to ensuring quality programming for its members, the executive director will play a leading role in all fundraising undertaken on behalf of the Club including grant writing, major donor, direct mail and individual membership funding efforts.

Mr. Nolan will relocate to Orrville with his family soon. Mr. Nolan is excited to be part of the Orrville community again. “This Club is very important to me. I am honored and excited to return to my hometown and to provide leadership to the Boys & Girls Club that I grew up in.”

His appointment is effective on September 28, 2020.

The Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club is excited to announce their 2020 Online Auction: No Shoes, No Mask, No Problem which will be held Monday, July 6th - Monday, July 20th.

In years past, the live event raised 25% of our operating budget. Due to event size limitations, we are going online! This year’s Online Auction will feature 70 items with starting bids ranging from $15 - $1,000 and will feature Gift Baskets, Food, Parties, Recreation, Getaways, Home Goods, Sports, Collectibles, & Sponsorships for Club Members. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Guides, supports and serves the Board of Directors in establishing goals and developing policies, procedures, budgets and programs that fulfill the mission of the Boys & Girls Club.
Monitors and approves the organization's program services and assures achievement of its mission and goals.
Provides leadership to Club staff by developing administrative and operational standards by which goals will be met.
Assures management and attainment of resources necessary to ensure the financial operations of the agency are conducted in accordance with applicable laws.
Assures that the organization is in compliance with membership and other requirements or standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and other affiliated and regulatory agencies
Oversees staffing activities of the organization, including recruiting, training, and evaluation of both paid and volunteer staff.
Promotes Boys & Girls Club services to individuals, other service organizations, and the local community.
Directs and participates in Club communications, public relations and fundraising activities.
Provides professional leadership to the Board of Directors to assure development of an effective and motivated board, including identification, recruitment, training and involvement of members in meeting the goals of the organization.
Ability to de-escalate stressful situations.
May be assigned special projects periodically by the Board of Directors.
Reports to the Board of Directors

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a non-profit agency or Boys & Girls Club which included a leadership role. Previous experience in management or supervision not necessarily in non-profit organizations also permissible.
Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations.
Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals.
Demonstrated competency and ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a Board of Directors, Staff, Community Groups, and other related agencies.
Demonstrated ability to supervise professionals and other staff.
Advanced knowledge and expertise in asset management including financial resources and property.
Demonstrated skills and competency in the following areas preferred: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations and of management; and resource development activities and sources of funding.

5 W's Nonfiction Bookmark

Exploring Capacity Activity
Using different bottle containers (ex: shampoo bottle, Gatorade bottle, water bottle, etc.) mark off different points on the bottles (quarter, half, three quarters, full, ½, ¼, etc.) Fill a large container/tub with colored water (easier for viewing) and ask children to play around with the water and measurements on the bottles. Welcome Lisa Widmer

Orrville, Ohio, February 20, 2020 – The Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club (“OABGC”) announced the appointment of Lisa Widmer as the Interim Executive Director following the resignation of the Club’s Executive Director on February 11, 2020. Widmer will serve in this role while the Board of Directors conducts a national search for the Executive Director position.

Widmer is currently Vice President, Fundraising Chair and Legislative Liaison for the OABGC’s Board of Directors. She is a member of Orrville’s City Council and serves on the Board of Aultman Hospital’s Growing Healthy Habits organization. She also serves as Treasurer for the Wayne County Republican Women and is an Executive Committee Member of the Wayne County Republican Party. She is a founder and coach for the Orrville Youth Running Club.

“We are very pleased to have appointed Lisa Widmer as Interim Executive Director of the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club. Lisa is a highly respected leader and role model in our community,” said Matt Budd, President of the OABGC Board of Directors. “Lisa has been dedicated to the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club as an active member of our Board of Directors since 2016. Her enthusiasm and commitment to serving children in our community will ensure we maintain and build on our Club’s focus of enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

Widmer resides in Orrville with her husband and five children.

Kindergarten:

Addition War
Children will be in partners and will use a deck of cards to play. Each player will turn over 2 cards and add them up. The player with the higher answer gets the cards. The player who gets all the cards is the winner.
Around the World Sight Words
One child will start by standing next to another child and a parent or teacher will show them a sight word card. The one who correctly says the word first gets to move on to the next child. The child who does not say the word in time, sits back down. The child who can pass the most children during the game is the winner.

First Grade:

True/False Addition
Children will take turns selecting a card, deciding if the addition sentence is true or false, and placing the card in the true/false pile. If the player decides correctly, they move 1 spot on the game board. If they guess incorrectly, they stay in the same spot. The game ends when a player makes it to the finish line.
