SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM: WEEK 5

Kindergarten:
- Addition War
- Children will be in partners and will use a deck of cards to play. Each player will turn over 2 cards and add them up. The player with the higher answer gets the cards. The player who gets all the cards is the winner.
- Around the World Sight Words
- One child will start by standing next to another child and a parent or teacher will show them a sight word card. The one who correctly says the word first gets to move on to the next child. The child who does not say the word in time, sits back down. The child who can pass the most children during the game is the winner.
First Grade:
- True/False Addition
- Children will take turns selecting a card, deciding if the addition sentence is true or false, and placing the card in the true/false pile. If the player decides correctly, they move 1 spot on the game board. If they guess incorrectly, they stay in the same spot. The game ends when a player makes it to the finish line. - Print Concepts Activity
- Children will cut out the boxes from a worksheet and glue them on another sheet that shows whether the boxes have letters, words, or sentences in them. For an example and free printable of this activity, visit https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Letter-Word-Sentence-Sort-2235576.
Second Grade:
- 3-Digit Subtraction
- Children will use 6 dice to roll and create a 3-digit subtraction problem to solve. For more competition, put children into groups and have them roll and solve the problems. The group with the highest answer wins the round. (Before letting them subtract, check to be sure the larger number is on top to avoid negative numbers). - Favorite Candy Opinion Writing
- Children will use the printable worksheet, that can be found at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Opinion-Writing-My-Favorite-Candy-1688689, to form an opinion piece about their favorite type of candy. They can then use their worksheet to create a more creative piece about their favorite candy.
Third Grade:
- Perimeter Exploration
- Children will use a ruler to find the perimeter of different objects around the classroom/house. If children need a reminder on how to use the ruler, discuss before measuring. For an example of this activity as well as other perimeter activities, visit https://www.ashleigh-educationjourney.com/teaching-area-and-perimeter/.
- Character Trait Charts
- After reading a story, children will pick a character from the story to describe and create a chart about. In the middle of a piece of paper, children will draw the character they want to describe. On one side of the character they will write physical traits (what you see on the outside) that describe the character and on the other side of the character they will write personality traits of the character (what we learn based on what the character thinks, feels, and does).
