SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM: WEEK 4

Kindergarten:
- Addition BAM! Game
- Children will take turns drawing addition fact cards from a basket and completing the addition problem, either in their heads, using their fingers, or on paper. If they get it correct, they keep their card, but if it is incorrect the card goes back in the basket. If a child draws a BAM! card, all the cards they have go back in the basket. The child with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.
- Write the Secret Sentence Activity
- Children will complete a worksheet that creates a sentence by sounding out the picture beneath each box and writing only the first letter of the picture they sounded out. For an example and printable worksheet, visit https://www.englishsafari.in/write-a-sentence/.
First Grade:
- Tic Tac Toe: Subtraction
- Children will take turns solving the subtraction problems on a tic tac toe board. The first child to get 3 in a row is the winner. For an example of this and more subtraction activities, visit http://themoffattgirls.com/first-grade-subtraction/.
- Making Connections Activity
- Children will read a story, or be read to, and will roll a dice that has “text-to-self connection, text-to-text connection, and text-to-world connection” written on it. They will tell about how they connected with what they had read to the connection that they rolled.
Second Grade:
- Subtraction Bingo
- Children will take turns completing a subtraction problem, cutting it out, and gluing it onto the BINGO worksheet. The first child to get 5 in a row is the winner. - Author’s Purpose Sort
- Children will read short stories and decide whether they think the author wrote these stories to persuade, inform, or entertain (PIE). Once they decide the author’s purpose they will draw a picture that shows what is happening in each story. For the printable stories, visit https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Authors-Purpose-sort-first-grade-1063818.
- Sight Word SNAP!
- Children will choose a partner, and each partner will have a set of sight word cards (each set has the same word cards in it). After the sets are shuffled, the partners will pick up a card at the same time and say the word on the card. After saying the word on their card, they will look at the other’s card and if they both have the same word, the first child to say “SNAP!” gets both cards. The player with the most cards at the end is the winner.
